Canon PIXMA MG5580 Reviews– Canon’s all-in-one printers are often among our favorites, although the company tends to make it better at £ 100 or more. However, the Canon Pixma MG5550 is a £ 70 MFP with five individual ink cartridges, an automatic duplexer, cloud printing when connected to a wireless network and a color screen. This combination of functionality is what we have seen from a much more expensive hardware, so this multi-function is a tempting proposition. The all-in-one has a single paper feed tray at the bottom, which works well but is unfortunately exposed to dust.

The MG5550 has two black ink cartridges: a dye-based black ink for photo printing and a black pigmented cartridge for printing clear documents. Pigmented inks do not bleed, which leads to more accurate characters, especially on the type of bottom paper often sold in supermarkets. In standard quality, the mono-text prints of the MG5550 are crisp and dark and printed at a speed of 11.3 ppm. We do not like paper input and output trays as much as those of previous models, which held a paper in a closed box. Large stacks of prints in the exit bin seemed a little rickety, but they kept their order.

The MG5550’s fast standard print speed means that there is little to be gained in terms of speed by printing on the print quality; text drafts have emerged at 11.5 ppm. However, draft mode uses less ink and appears sharp, only with finer characters. A closer look reveals that the draft is a bit more irregular than its quality equivalent, but it does not show at a glance. Color print speeds are not that bad at 3.6 ppm. However, to get the best results, you need to use thicker paper: a test with 75 g / m2 paper has left large areas of dark color, a little uneven due to a large amount of ink left behind on them. Apart from a slight speck, we were pleased with the quality of the impressions of our color websites and our illustrated business documents, especially in the finely degraded shading areas. Even the small text has been made clear.
